We Must Stand Together

Photo cred: Bustle
I was going to write a post about how to create a morning routine for today's Wild Card Wednesday but with the results of the election I needed to express how I felt. Now I'm not going to analyze the election, rant about how Hillary should've won or hate on Trump. This post is not about the candidates individually. While watching Hillary's concession speech I felt completely moved and I felt the urge to use my voice for whatever I could. When I first found out she had lost I was devastated and angry but again this post is not about that. Hillary's speech turned my attention to what is truly important, no matter who is in office, standing together. Our country has proven throughout this election how deeply divided we all are but we all want the same thing. We all want a country that we are proud to call home, a country that is united. The part of Hillary's speech that has stuck to me more than anything is when she addressed woman. I was watching her speech and thought "she's talking to me, this applies to me". I am a young woman just trying to find her way, trying to do my best. This is not about pushing men out or putting them down. Woman need to stand together for themselves. We, woman, can be so competitive, jealous, and hateful towards other woman. Truthfully, we have moments where we don't want to see other woman succeed. I've had those moments. We all have. Woman are such incredible beings and we are each individually worth so much so I think it is important to recognize that in one another. We need to lift each other up, help each other succeed, and celebrate other's victories. There is room for all of us to succeed so why not help other woman get there? You don't have to support Hillary but you can support the woman around you. It's not easy, which is sad; woman have been trained to see other woman as competition. But we are not each other's competition; we are each other's friends, sisters, moms, daughters, aunts, supporters. We as woman need to be happy we have each other to share our victories with one another. Seeing another woman succeed doesn't mean you have failed. It means woman, as a community, have succeeded. We need to be kinder to ourselves and to each other. No one knows how to have a perfect life, we all have successes and we all have failures. So let's as woman stand together to raise each other up and celebrate that we have one another. Let's as human beings no matter gender, race or religion, stand united to take on a new time in our country. Look forward to the future because anything is possible.
XOXO, Maddy
