New Health Series: What is Gastritis?

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week! Today I'm starting a new health series based around my boyfriend, Kyle. I started this blog with the passion to want to help people whether that was with fashion, beauty, health, wellness, ect.; I know this post/series might bore some people but I also think it could really benefit others who might be struggling like Kyle has been. This series won't be weekly so don't worry if it isn't your thing because this series won't be consuming my blog by any means! I'm also making this post into a series because I feel there is a lot to talk about and I didn't want this post to turn into book length because it'll probably be long to start with.

Okay so let's begin! For the past 6 months Kyle has been struggling with severe stomach issues; he can't sleep, basically any food upsets his stomach but he has said it feels like he is constantly starving. He also struggles with heart burn and all the symptoms that come along with that such as belching and chest pain. I felt the need to bring attention to this because what Kyle was diagnosed with (which I'll get into in a moment) doesn't seem to be that talked about all that much (IMO). At first we thought it was candida because Kyle struggled with that a few years ago but when he started doing things to help that but nothing changed. Then we thought it could be gluten... turned out we were wrong. About a month or so ago a doctor finally put it together that he has gastritis, in particular acute gastritis.

What is acute gastritis you may ask? Well according to this website, it is "a sudden inflammation or swelling in the lining of the stomach". Kyle's doctor also told him that it is a type of GERD. Incase you don't know what GERD is, it is a "digestive disease in which stomach acid or bile irritates the food pipe lining". Other symptoms are nausea, vomiting and indigestion; for causes and other symptoms refer to the website linked above.

This post is meant to bring awareness to gastritis incase you or someone you know may be dealing with similar symptoms to Kyle's but can't identify what is going on; it may be gastritis or not but it is helpful to know what's out there. I know for Kyle and myself, Kyle especially, it was an extremely frustrating road to go down because he was in so much pain but we and the doctors were struggling to identify it.

Kyle is now on medication to help calm the inflammation and we are working on his diet to help heal his stomach. That is what I want the rest of this series to be about, how we are healing his stomach with food. Food is such an amazing form of medicine that it is where I want to focus his recovery. The medication is obviously helpful but even the doctors don't want him on it for too long because it isn't good for you overall.

If you have any questions feel free to leave them down below! I hope this post can help someone who is also struggling with a stomach issue they can't identify! Never feel like you can't ask others or doctors questions, it is your body!

XOXO, Maddy
