Let's Get Basic: 5 Clothing Basics

Shop The Post: Tee // Jeans (can't find mine online!) // Shoes

Hey hey everyone! I finished moving yesterday and could not be more relieved! I'm so happy to be able to relax a little more now!

Today, I wanted to talk basics. Of course it's fun to buy statement pieces or items that are a little different but we don't want wardrobe basics to get lost in the commotion. I believe to make the standout items in your closet work you need good basics AND having some go-to classic pieces will make getting dressed that much easier. I have really been working on building my basic collection because it is a necessity. In this post I want to cover some of the basics I think are important to have in your closet. That being said, remember that these aren't every single basic you need; the basics you will have in your wardrobe will depend on where you live, your personal style, and the season. Also, basics don't need to be expensive BUT sometimes it is good to spend a little more on something you might be wearing almost every other day!

***So I've decided to go with a summer/warm location theme here because creating a list of basics for year round is nearly impossible! Season affects what you wear A LOT!***

1. Classic Tee
I think this might be the basic of all basics, the item that every person needs! This top is from The Reformation (check my post out my post about the brand here) and I HIGHLY recommend it. Finding a go-to tee is important because you can pair it with everything and style it so many ways. I would suggest picking this piece up in multiple colors (maybe even stripes?) and making sure it lies nicely on your body. Some people prefer more fitted versions while others may like 'em boyfriend style.

2. Distressed Denim
Now this is something that I think applies more towards warmer months but that is also because in the winter where I live it snows and ripped jeans are not practical. That being said, if you live in California, for example, distressed denim may be a good basic all year around. I think distressed denim is a closet basic because it adds style to your outfit without even trying. Like a cool, laid-back vibe, ya know?

3. Simple Sandal
Again, this item applies more towards warmer months and locations. In the summer having a plain, classic sandal is a necessity! You need something you can easily put on that goes with just about everything. I would recommend having a sandal similar to the one above in a few colors like black and brown.

4. Flowy dress
Dresses are literally the easiest way to get dressed! Lol. The style of your go-to dress may vary season to season but having a staple dress you can throw on anytime is a must! You can experiment with colors and patterns but I think a having a LOOSE dress is the key. A more flowy or loose fit, I feel, can be easily dressed up or down AND you can wear it when you're feeling great or a little food coma has got ya feeling puffy, ha!

5. Jean Shorts
In the summer having a basic jean short is so important because you can build off of it so easily! You can keep things extra simple by pairing your shorts with a classic tee or buy all the fun tops you want because you have your go-to shorts to pair with them!! I recommend finding a fit that you can wear to multiple occasions and a wash that creates no concern when pairing it with other items. My go-to short is by the brand Mother, see me wearing them here.

There ya have it! My closet basics for summer time! Maybe I could make this a series and do one for every season? Let me know what you think!

XOXO, Maddy
