3 Foods To Add To Your Diet

Happy Wednesday!! How's everyone's week going? I hope you all enjoyed Monday's post where I talked about 5 yoga poses to detox your body!

Today I wanted to share three foods that are SO nutrient dense and have amazing benefits for your body. Now there are tons of foods out there that are so beneficial to add to your diet but I wanted to keep things easy peasy. Chia seeds, acai, and cauliflower are all foods that can easily fit into your everyday diet! While I'm definitely an advocator for trying weird/different foods, most of the time it's nice to keep it simple.

Here is why you should add these babies to your diet!

Chia Seeds

* lots of fiber (AMAZING for digestion)
* omega 3's (omega 3's AND 6's are important but most diets are way too high in 6's and too low in 3's)
* high in calcium, magnesium, and potassium
* high in antioxidants
*curbs hunger (b/c of fiber!)
*lower blood pressure

Ways to eat chia seeds: add to a smoothie or overnight oats, chia pudding, top a salad or smoothie bowl

Cauliflower

* high in vitamin C
* high in different forms of antioxidants (phytochemicals)
* highly correlated with preventing chronic diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers)
* reduces inflammation (antioxidants such a beta-carotene help reduce oxidative stress)
* high in vitamin K
* high in sulfer which aids in digestion

Ways to eat cauliflower: add to mashed potatoes (recipe), cauli rice, smoothie (recipe), buffalo "wings" (recipe)

Acai

* high levels of antioxidants (anthocyanin which are linked to fighting heart disease and cancer)
* contains oleic acid (same healthy fat that is in olive oil)
* helps detoxify the body
* reduces irritation in the lungs
* improves immune system
* has anti-aging effects (antioxidants!)

Ways to eat acai: smoothie bowl, this video contains 3 really unique acai recipes

As I was writing this I noticed that antioxidants seem to be the key word in this post! But who doesn't love antioxidants!?

There are so many ways to incorporate these foods into your diet and so many benefits from doing so but don't feel the need to go crazy and start downing these things. That being said, I have tried multiple of the recipes listed above and they're all so yummy! Also, if you want to read more or know where I got my info from check out these articles: one, two, three, four, and five. Let me know in the comments or on Instagram if you tried incorporating one of these foods into your everyday diet!

XOXO, Maddy
