5 Ways To Start A Healthy Lifestyle

Happy Monday! Today I'm restarting BBG (Bikini Body Guide) so wish me luck! I've done it before but only made it 5 weeks before a vacation led me to fall off the band wagon... whoops. I'm determined to stick out the whole 3 months!

Anyways, today's blog post is more on the general side but I'd figure it might help anyone who, thanks to the New Year, is on a new journey towards a healthier lifestyle. DISCLAIMER I'm not an expert but I try to live as healthy as I can day to day and feel like I've picked up some knowledge along the way. So today I wanted to share 5 bits of advice I'd give to someone who wants to make healthy changes to their life!

1. Don't go all in.

What do I mean by this you ask? Don't start chucking out every "unhealthy" piece of food in your fridge or go to target and buy every piece of fitness equipment you can find. You are probably going to end up VERY overwhelmed! Start small and keep things simple. An example would be to challenge yourself to drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water everyday or include one veggie in every meal for a week.

2. Move your body in some way everyday.

Everyone is different especially when it comes to their preferences for working out. Maybe you like HIIT, yoga, walking, dance, etc. there are a million different ways you can move your body! Try to do something everyday. Some days you might run a few miles and the next you do a stretching yoga routine, it can look different everyday.

3. Spend more time in the produce section at the store.

The produce section = less boxed foods = healthier you. Now I'm not saying you need to change your diet to only eating fruits and veggies, who could live off that?? But the produce section has the freshest foods which tends to mean the most nutrient and we want as many vitamins and minerals in our bodies as we can get! Try sticking to the perimeter of the grocery store and only go down the aisles need be.

4. Try incorporating smoothies into your diet.

Smoothies are one of the easiest (& tastiest!) ways to get SO MANY nutrients into your daily diet! Not only can you sneak so many veggies into a smoothie you're also getting a lot of healthy fiber in too. Some things to add into your smoothie: chia seeds (omega 3's), avocado (healthy fat), hemp seeds (protein), turmeric (fights inflation) and I could go on and on!

5. Speak to yourself kindly.

Starting, and maintaining, a healthy lifestyle isn't about perfection or never eating "unhealthy" food. This isn't a diet or a fad, it's a LIFESTYLE which means continuing healthy choices throughout your entire life. Don't beat yourself up when a pizza or chocolate sounds good to you; don't tell yourself you're "cheating" or use words like "can't" and "shouldn't". You're starting a healthy lifestyle because you WANT to not because you HAVE to.

I hope these general tips are helpful to you all! Starting a healthy lifestyle is fun and you're doing this because of positive reasons not negative ones!

XOXO, Maddy
