Let's Talk Goals For 2018: How To Make Goals You'll Actually Keep

HAPPY NEW YEAR BABES!!!! It is officially 2018, a new year and a fresh start so obviously it is goal/resolution time! Best of all it's a Monday so what better way to start fresh, right!? To be honest I''m starting "fresh" tomorrow because well... I had a lot of wine last night, okay?? Raise your hand if you can relate haha.

I LOVE goal setting but to be real I'm not the best at keeping them, I typically forget about them by the end of the week then remember them at the end of the month then forget about them the rest of the year. 2018 though is going to be different I'm going to set REALISTIC goals, ones that are actually manageable. I wanted to share with you all a few ways I'll be keeping myself in check this year!

1. Give yourself more time than you think.
Wouldn't we all love to complete our goals by January 30th or at least be well on our way? Yeah that'd be nice but not all goals can be completed in a few weeks or even months. One of my goals is to travel more this year; well I'd be setting myself up for failure if I said "I will travel to 5 new places by the end of February" that's just not going to happen for me personally. Be kind to yourself and give yourself proper time.

2. Break the year up into parts.
I have general and year long goals/resolutions, those are fine to have. That being said, I think it is helpful to focus on a few months at a time. I'd love to make goals for July but I have no clue where I'll be then! Who knows what life will look like in 6, 8, or 10 months! Most of my goals right now are for January-March with a few year long goals. When March rolls around I can reassess where I am and make more/new goals for the next few months.

3. Narrow in.
Again, having a few general goals is fine but most of your goals will need more structure. For instance, "grow my blog" is WAY to general of a goal, what the heck does that even mean? In what ways do I want to grow my blog SPECIFICALLY. Spend some time breaking down your bigger goals into more structured and specific goals so you actually know where you're headed! "Lose weight" is another way too general goal/resolution we all need to chuck into the garbage for good.

I hope these tips were helpful in shaping your goals for this upcoming year! Also, maybe take a sip of water ('cause hungover much? lol) every time I said goals in this post! I have a different yet exciting post for Wednesday so stay tuned!

XOXO, Maddy
