My Immunity Boosting Breakfast

Happy Valentine's Day!! Today I wanted to talk about something new I've been trying for breakfast but in all honesty this morning I did not have what is pictured above. I had two donuts and a passionfruit tea lemonade from Starbucks which was sugary and delicious! Even though that is not a normal breakfast for me at all I still have been trying to up my healthy breakfast game recently.

A week or so ago I stumbled upon this article from Mind Body Green and it stood out to me because I love garlic! Now bare with me this is going to seem a little extreme but I've been eating chunks of garlic on my toast in the morning (see picture). You can eat this any time of day but I want the amazing benefits of garlic to be the first thing in my body. What you first put in your body every morning is so important and will affect the rest of your day. If you eat something sugary first thing, like I did today, you'll be craving sugar the rest of the day!

So yes, I've been eating chunks of garlic every morning and you bet my breath is SMELLY but mints and brushing my teeth get rid of the smell and the benefits of garlic greatly out way the smell situation. The recipe in the article linked above calls for 6 cloves of garlic for 2 servings which is A LOT of garlic so I'm working my way up and I split 1 clove between 2 slices of toast. Also, it's helpful to have a smoothie or something on the side to balance out the extremeness of the garlic.

Here are some benefits of garlic:

* the compound allicin is released and has potent medicinal properties
* contains numerous vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin B6, selenium, etc.
* boosts immunity/prevents and lessens common colds
* reduce blood pressure
* can lower cholesterol
* contains antioxidants
* detoxify heavy metals in the body
* improves bone health

The benefits of garlic can go on and on! I know garlic can be a little intense but start small and continue to work your way up!

XOXO, Maddy
