3 Tips For Adjusting To A New City

Welcome back to A Pinch of Brunette! That was me trying not to say "hey everyone!" or "happy Monday!" because I start with one of those two every single time lol. I wanted to share a topic that has been very predominant in my life recently and that is adjusting to a new city. I'm sure you're all aware, at least most of you are, that I moved to Los Angeles 3 months ago (how the heck has it been 3 months??). I've never lived away from my hometown except for a one semester stint at a college an hour away from my hometown so basically I've never been away from home until now. While I'm so happy we moved and it's been a great change, adjusting to a new city especially in a new state can be challenging. I wanted to share a few things that have helped me but know this has been a work in progress I'm still adjusting and learning different helpful tips to make it easier.

3 Tips For Adjusting To A New City

1. Every Weekend Try Something New In Your Area

This is something I'm trying to get better at. Kyle and I have been exploring SoCal a lot which has been great don't get me wrong but we haven't really explored a whole lot of where we live. I'm a very habitual person so once I find something I like I find it hard to get out of my comfort zone. On the weekends, I've really tried to push myself (and Kyle!) to eat/see/go to new places. It is really fun to explore what's around you and find hidden gems!

2. Make Your House a Home

This can be tricky at first when you're still getting settled into your new place but go the extra effort and fill your place with home-y things. While I've enjoyed exploring and being out and about it is nice to come home to an apartment that feels like mine and Kyle's. I love cooking so I have a fair amount of cookbooks and once I put those on the counter our kitchen immediately felt more like a home. I also want to print out pictures and create a gallery wall behind our couch!

3. Join Private Facebook Groups

Meeting new people can be a HUGE STRUGGLE when you move somewhere new. I mean, side note, how the heck do people meet each other once you don't have school to force you together!? That's a topic for another post... One thing that I think is really cool about modern technology is the ability to connect with others so easily. Many podcasts and bloggers now have private FB groups and within those groups are subgroups of different cities/states. I've joined two LA subgroups and can't wait to go to a meet up! It's nice knowing you already have something in common with these people because they listen/follow/watch the same thing you do!

Hope you all found this helpful! If you have any other tips/advice for moving somewhere new comment below or leave a comment on my latest Instagram!

XOXO, Maddy
