3 Things I've Learned About "Adulting"

*This top is linked on my Instagram!*

Hey everyone! How was your weekend? This past weekend was one of the first weekends in a while that actually felt long. Normally I feel like I blink and the weekend is gone but this one felt like I actually had time to be productive and relax. Kyle and I were talking about this last night and we agreed that one thing that made a big difference was grocery shopping on Saturday instead of Sunday. We happen to have the time on Saturday so we took advantage and got it done! This opened up so much more time on Sunday.

Speaking of being productive, today I wanted to share 3 things I've learned about "adulting". Since moving to California I've REALLY had to put my big girl pants on and handle sh*t like an adult. It's funny because when you're 16 you think I can't wait to be an adult and take on those responsibilities then you're 23 and you realize you haven't paid your toll road fines and they're charging you extra HUGE fines (that was a fun experience...not). I don't have everything figured out but I'm getting there slowly but surely... although I'll never have everything totally figured out.

What I've Learned About "Adulting" So Far

1. Plan, plan, plan

This doesn't mean have your whole entire life planned out but day to day and week to week I've figured out (the hard way) to stay on top of things and keep organized. I'm trying to be better about using my planner because when I write everything down it really helps. The reminder app is super helpful when I have a little task I need to remember or I'm scheduling something a few weeks in advance. I also use that app when I've signed up for something that is reoccurring and need a reminder to either cancel or I need to change something. Those little subscription services will get ya!

2. Prioritize

This goes hand in hand with planning but something that I'm realizing is a weakness so I'm really trying to work on it. I can plan all I want but if I don't know how to prioritize, what's the point? I've found myself creating a mile long to do list, trying to tackle it and realizing, at the end of the day, I haven't even gotten done what I really needed/wanted to! Since I'm still researching this I don't have much to say on the topic but it is important to creating balance in your life. Do you have any tips?

3. Ask for help/delegate

Wouldn't it have been cool if I had another "P" word to make it 3 P's? Oh well, next time lol. This is another thing I'm really pushing myself to work on. We can't do it all every single day, it just doesn't work but I seem to like to really try! I'm definitely a "Monica" (Friends reference) and I like to be in control and do things my way. Unfortunately, this causes a lot of anxiety and creates a lot of unbalance in my life. I feel really lucky that Kyle offers to help so much with the apartment, the kitchen, etc. and it's my instinct to turn him down because I figure I can just do it. Now I'm working on taking him up on the offers and if he doesn't do it exactly how I want that's just fine. Also, if I can't home-make every meal, have a perfectly clean home all while having time for Kyle and friends that's okay too. I don't have to be Martha Stewart all the time...

XOXO, Maddy
